KEDAH EDU-TRIP 2007

On 27th - 31st December 2007, Marjon 1 group had organized a 5 days educational trip to Kedah Darul Aman. On the first day, we stayed at the home stays located at Kampung Raga, Yan and conducted a few community services there, for instance, an English session with all kindergarten kids of Kg. Raga, Yan. Besides, we also helped the villagers during their feast. Next, we also had a golden opportunity to climb Mount Jerai which took about 6 hours to get to the peak. It was the most memorable experience for us. Lastly, we also conducted a few series of interviews with the villagers of Kg. Sungai Yan about the cultures and society.

MARJON 1's Tumpat Edu- Visit Tumpat 2007

On 2nd and 3rd of November 2007, B. Ed TESL IPKB-MARJON 1 had their very first outdoor activity which was Tumpat Edu-Visit 2007.

briefing at LKIM office
a visit to Tumpat

This is our first educational trip to Tumpat for a further research on the topic 'Culture'. We were to learn more on the different culture of the multi-racial country Malaysia. We have many distinct races and to understand them more is to do some field work.

We visited the fishermen village in Tumpat and have done some research on their lifestyles and their basic income and cost of living. Although we do speak the same National Language, we found it hard to understand the local dialect. But, overall we had a great slot of interviewing the villagers and had some video and voice recording for our further researches. We also got the chance to visit the salted fish processing village and to learn more about those local favourite 'budu'.

Other than that, we did a school visit and organised an English programme to the locals there. The "English is Fun" activity managed to pull the students' attention on the importance of English and to encourade them in speaking more.

Overall, this is our first trip and is not the last. Many better trips will we organised and we will be looking forward for that....

Thank You.....

about us...

Introduction on Marjon 1

B. Ed. (TESL) in Kota Bharu Teacher’s Training Institute (KBTI) is a twinning programme with University College of St. Mark & St. John (Marjon), Plymouth, UK. Essentially, the programme aims to conduct practice to theoretical and research insight in English language. Typically, most of us will follow the programme through three stages which are the foundations, degrees and practicum. So, as the 1st Cohort of this programme, we are the pioneer of the third cycle and it is very important for us to set a benchmark in academics and co-academics. In KBTI itself, we are known as Marjon 1. The number 1 indicates our cohort. Furthermore, we are welcoming a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. All of us come from different states with different ideas, perspectives and hopes. The Marjon 1 consists of 24 students from all over Malaysia except Perlis, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak. In addition, there are 20 Malays, 2 Chinese and 2 Indians in our group. However, it does not matter on how different we are, what matters most is that all of us come with one aim which is to further our studies in Marjon. Besides, this multi-racial class is very unique and special in every aspect. We are determined to have equal opportunities, believing that everyone has the right to fulfill the potential irrespective of ethnicity, gender or socio-cultural groups. Thus, all of us are working as a single unit so that we will have the chance to fulfill our dreams in Marjon.
