School Visit 2008

On 20 May 2008, we organized a school visit at SK Padang Garong 1, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. This school visit was actually one of the components required under English Language Games which was held in IPTI last April. With the motto “Having Fun With English”, we have came out with 6 interesting and fun games which were the Boom Balloon, Confusing Colours, On Bluetooth, Sing a long session and others. Our main objective which was to have fun with English had been successfully achieved as the Year 6 pupils had given their full commitment through the activities and games.

Moving Ahead With English

On 20 April-24 April 2008, we took part in “English Language Camp 2008” which was held at Institut Perguruan Temenggong Ibrahim, Johor Bharu. This annual camp included 10 other teacher's training colleges from all around Malaysia especially for the colleges that have B.Ed TESL Programme. There were many exciting activities and games regarding the language and thinking skills held by each college involved. Among the activities are choral speaking competition, sing-a-long session, aerobic session and also games in groups.





We also sent Muhammad Fadhli bin Mufti, Nur Aiman b. Zainudin and also Isna Suhairin bt. Mokhtardin as our representatives in the story-telling competition. The three of them really had done a marvellous job. Everybody enjoyed their stories. On the last day of the camp, 3 colleges which are Institut Perguruan Darul Aman, Institut Perguruan Gaya and Institut Perguruan Kota Bharu students had an opportunity to perform cultural performances during the closing ceremony. IPDA students performed Zapin Dance while IP Gaya performed Sumazau Dance. However, we proudly performed our Dikir Barat fully in English and got a round of applause from the audience.

Save The Turtle !!!

In order to fulfill our Social Studies assessment requirement, we went to Kerteh, Terengganu on 19 April 2008 for our field trip at the turtle conservation centre there. The experience and knowledge that we got from this trip was not only contributed to our studies, but also developing our awareness to save and protect turtle. A recent research shows that turtle is the most highly endangered species in Malaysia. Thus, lets us together support the campaign to save this animal from becoming a history.



We stayed up all night to watch the turtles come to shore. Yet, nobody saw any turtle at all that night.



We were very excited to listen to a talk by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) officers. They really opened our eyes on conserving the wildlife especially turtles in Malaysia.



We did stopped by at Shuhadah's house for lunch before coming to Ma' Beach Turtle Conservation Centre. Thanks a million to Mr. Mohd Noh's family.

Tony Wright and Steve Ansell's Visit to IPKB

On the 13 to 18 April 2008, we had visitors form University College of Plymoth St Mark and St. John. There were just two lecturers from the respective university came and observed our life and studies here. From that particular week, we just had half a day chance to bring them around IPKB (Institut Perguruan Kota Bharu). Their arrival here brought a millions of meaning and they also enjoyed staying here. The places that we had shown to them includes our own classroom; Marjon 1, Library, Wawasan Hall, cafeteria, HEP, and also computer room. Besides, we also had a session with them which provide us time to share our problems here regarding academic wise. Furthermore, they also shared their experience lecturing in Marjon and the environment to give us simple introduction on the lifestyle there. Besides, we also performed culture performance in front of them.

Sports is A Part of Life

So, this is a picture of a football. Eventhough, we only have 8 guys in our class but it is enough for them to participate in a football competition organized by our seniors, IPKB-UITM Cohort 5. It was on the 17th January 2008. All of us went to the field and gave them full support and motivation. We didn't win of course but it was fun for all us. The guys really had done their best. Well done boys!!!

Well, what about the girls? The girls also participated in the competition but not in football.. of course.We played netball on the 18th January 2008. It was a fantastic experience! We competed with all of TESLian in IPKB. We went face to face with Cohort 1, Cohort 4 and Cohort 5. We didn't win also.. But as always, we had a blast!

In the second semester of our two year foundation program, our Co-Curricular Activities (CCCA) was softball. Mr. Aziz bin Jaafar who teaches us for this subject. We learned how to catch, pitch, throw, batting and running from the first base until we reach HOME.

Dikir Barat & Dance practices

Dikir Barat is a famous cultural performance which is specially originated from Kelantan. Since, we are in Kelantan so we had a marvelous chance to learn this magnificent norm here. A former music lecturer from IPKB itself, Encik Ghani was assigned to be our educator for this traditional dance, Dikir Barat. The lesson begun in February 2008.



After finishing a few lessons from him, we were so ready to perform one Dikir Barat during Budi Bahasa Budaya Kita campaign. We have been practicing for about 3 weeks before the performance. We have taught a lot of new stuffs, as well the certain stuffs that we never knew before.

Next, we have to perform another Dikir Barat in IPTI during TESL Camp. We choose Dikir Barat as it is very famous in Kelantan and it represents Kelantan tradition and culture. As for dance, after few sessions of practice and discussion we finally decided to pick two types of dance which are ‘Menora’ or also known as ‘Tarian Menghadap Balai’ and also ‘Wau Bulan Dance’. Every week we had three times of practice for dance which is on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon for two hours each session and also two times practice for Dikir Barat at night.



So far, we have practice lots of steps from the dancing class. It looks quite simple and easy at first but when we tried, it is very difficult especially when we have to learn two types of dances at the same time, but after all it was fun and enjoyable. We have to use both mental and physical strength and ability in order to dance well. We felt very lucky to have the chance to learn and experience this. It was not easy to have this kind of opportunity, for us to learn other culture and custom. It is very valuable and like elders said; luck won’t easily come to you, it is you who should find it and grab it.

KUALA LUMPUR TRIP 2008

On 27th February- 1st March 2008, we again went to Kuala Lumpur for four days to conduct a few researches regarding environment, one of the components required in Social Studies’ syllabus. We managed to get lots of information about Flora and Fauna through sessions with officers from WWF (World Wildlife Fund), MNS (Malaysian Nature Society) and FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia). We also had visited Alam Flora Buy-back Centre to find out more on recycling.
